Asian Para Games or simply the Para Games is a multi-sports event that is organized and regulated by the Asia Paralympic Committee. It is held every four years following each Asian Games and is open to athletes with physical disabilities.
On Saturday, India’s para-athletes on created history by achieving their 100th medal at the Hangzhou Para Asian Games.
The gold medal went to India’s Paralympic gold medalist Dilip Mahadima Gavit.
It’s the first time India’s para team has won 100 medals and it’s their best performance at the Para Asian Games.
At the moment, India has a total of 26 gold medals, 29 silver and 45 bronze. In 2018 , India had a record of 72 medals including 15 gold, 24 silver and 33 bronze.
PM Mr. Narendra Modi expressed his immense pride and gratitude for the “talent, hard work and determination” of our athletes. He also expressed his gratitude to the “unbelievable coaches and entire support system” working with them to achieve this remarkable milestone.
In the Asian Games, India’s para athletes have surpassed their country’s 100 medal mark for the first time in the history of the Games.
