Google CEO Sundar Pichai and his wife Anjali Pichai were recently honored by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. Sundar Pichai was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) degree, while Anjali Pichai received the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Anjali Pichai, who has a background in Chemical Engineering, graduated with honors from IIT-Kharagpur in 1993. Sundar Pichai shared photos from the ceremony on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the recognition from his alma mater. In his post, he mentioned that while his parents had hoped he would earn a doctorate, receiving an honorary one was still a meaningful achievement.

Sundar Pichai expressed his gratitude towards the institute in a recent post, acknowledging the role of IIT in providing him with access to education and technology, which ultimately led him to Google. He also emphasized the growing importance of IIT in the field of technology, particularly with the AI revolution, and expressed his appreciation for his time at the institute. Additionally, he shared images on Instagram, one showing him receiving the award and the other of him meeting officials from the institute in San Francisco. According to a report by Indian Express, IIT Kharagpur stated that Pichai was awarded an honorary doctorate for his contributions to digital transformation, affordable technology, and groundbreaking innovations.

President Droupadi Murmu, Visitor of the institute, honored Pichai with the degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) at the 69th Convocation of IIT-Kharagpur in December last year for his outstanding contributions to digital transformation, affordable technology, and groundbreaking innovations. Since Pichai was not able to attend the convocation, the institute planned to contact him at a later date. The institute officials organized a felicitation program in San Francisco on July 23, as stated in the institute’s announcement.
