Guwahati: In response to the corruption allegations made by the Congress during their ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma retaliated on Saturday by asserting that no one can surpass the corruption of the Gandhis.Over the past two days, Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the Yatra currently in its third day in the state, has referred to Mr Sarma as the “most corrupt CM in the country” at various public gatherings.Mr Sarma expressed his perspective on the matter by stating, “I perceive any derogatory remarks coming from the so-called Gandhi family as a source of motivation. It empowers me to combat against a family that considers itself to be the most influential.” Mr Sarma shared this statement on X.
In addition, he questioned, “Is there anyone more corrupt than the Gandhis? – Bofors Scam, National Herald Scam, Bhopal Gas Tragedy, the escape of Anderson, 2G scam, Coal Scam, etc (the list is extensive and never-ending).” Mr. Gandhi had asserted that Mr. Sarma could provide “lessons” to chief ministers of other BJP-ruled states on “how to engage in corruption.” On Thursday, Mr. Sarma had refuted the allegations, even on the first day of the Yatra in Assam, by referring to the Gandhi family as the “most corrupt” and using a “fake” surname. During a press conference in Majuli as part of the Yatra on Friday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi had claimed that corruption was the “central issue” for the people of the state, hence the focus on it. The Yatra is scheduled to traverse through Assam until January 25, covering a total distance of 833 km across 17 districts.
