“Grimes Introduces ‘Grok’: An AI Playmate for Kids, Capable of Conversations”

Recently, xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company, rolled out an AI chatbot named Grok, for those who might not be familiar with it.

Grimes, the singer-songwriter and former partner of Elon Musk, is set to introduce her AI-infused toy line featuring Grok, an AI chatbot coincidentally named similarly to Musk’s xAI company’s recent launch. She lent her voice to the rocket-shaped AI toy and other screen-free AI plushies in the collection. Using OpenAI’s technology, these toys are crafted to engage in conversations with children, aiming to create a friend-like interaction for the kids.

Grimes took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to make a significant announcement tagged as “Special announcement.” It’s important to note that although Grok, the AI chatbot, isn’t integrated into this specific toy release. Not long ago, xAI debuted its Grok AI chatbot, aiming to rival ChatGPT and Google Bard.

According to insights from The Washington Post, Grimes holds roles as an investor and advisor within the toy company. Misha Sallee, the CEO of Curio, disclosed that these toys were specifically crafted with Grimes’ children in mind. Sallee mentioned, “The toy was intended for X and other kids, but primarily for X because he’s reached an age where he can engage in effective back-and-forth conversations with the toy.”

Elon Musk and Grimes are parents to three children: X AE A-XII, Exa Dark Siderael Musk, and Tau Techno Mechanicus. Their eldest daughter, affectionately called X, was born in 2020, followed by their second child born via surrogate in 2021, and the third child arriving in 2022. Notably, post their separation in September 2021, Grimes and Musk are co-parenting their trio of children.

Crio, a company, has unveiled three plush toys named Grok, Gabbo, and Grem, with shipments set to commence in early 2024.

In relation to the X Grok, Musk noted that the recently introduced chatbot Grok from xAI seems to possess a ‘rebellious streak’. The AI company mentioned in a blog post that Grok draws inspiration from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” the renowned sci-fi comedy authored by British writer Douglas Adams.
