Founder of Wikipedia takes a shot at Elon Musk saying that “X” isn’t a reliable source of information !

For Many of us, Wikipedia has always been our go-to source when searching for important information. Founded by Jimmy Wales, the website has become a go-to source for students, teachers and working professionals alike. In 2023, the age of artificial intelligence (AI), Wikipedia is being read by large language models (LLMs) that power chatbots such as ChatGPT and Bing and Bard.

Founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, joked about Elon Musk, saying that Musk’s platform X (twitter) isn’t the greatest source of truth, adding that he’s glad LLMs go to Wikipedia for the correct information.

“It’s great to see LLMs reading Wikipedia, not Elon Musk’s X.” – Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia said.

According to a Fortune article, Wales said that X is “not a reliable source for accurate information” and that he’s glad that LLMs read his website rather than Twitter (now known as X).

Jimmy Wales makes a sarcastic remark about Elon Musk:

His remarks were met with applause from those present. Wales concluded his speech by joking that he would have a “one-hanger” on Elon, as he is always a popular figure. He further stated that he had not yet been made aware of Grok, which is expected to be Musk’s upcoming Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot included in X Premium subscription.

Wikipedia and Elon Musk:

The relationship between Elon Musk and Wikipedia, co-founder of the website, has been the subject of much attention in recent times. In the past month, Musk has expressed his disapproval of Wikipedia and proposed that the website should be renamed to Dickipedia.

He further stated that if the website chose to change its name, he would donate USD 1 million to it. Musk has also shared a screenshot of Wikipedia’s homepage, where the website is soliciting donations from users in the name of Jimmy Wales.

Wales had previously expressed his disapproval of Musk’s decision to restrict the expression of criticism of Turkish President Erdogan on X, just prior to a critical election. The Turkish authorities had requested Musk to limit the content on X, and he had complied. Wales had noted that Wikipedia had faced similar issues in the past, yet had maintained freedom of expression, filing a petition with the Supreme Court to protect it.
