The employees are urging AI companies to adopt the following principles to encourage transparency and accountability:

  1. AI companies should refrain from retaliating against employees who express criticism regarding AI risks and should not impose punishments on them for raising concerns.
  2. AI companies should establish channels for employees to anonymously report AI risks to the company’s board, regulators, and independent experts.
  3. AI companies should encourage open discussions among employees regarding AI risks while safeguarding trade secrets. This entails creating a secure environment where employees can freely share their concerns without apprehension.
  4. In the event that internal procedures prove ineffective, AI companies should not seek retribution against employees who publicly disclose their concerns about AI risks.

This open communication serves as an urgent plea for AI enterprises to collaborate with scientists, policymakers, and the general public in order to guarantee the safe development of AI technologies. By adhering to these fundamental guidelines, AI companies can actively mitigate the potential risks associated with their innovations and foster a more transparent and responsible industry. In doing so, AI can genuinely contribute to the betterment of humanity while avoiding any detrimental consequences.
