“Former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan Resigns from Congress, Poised to Join BJP”

According to sources, Ashok Chavan, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, has resigned from the Congress party. It is reported that he is considering joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). If he were to join the BJP, it would be another significant setback for the Congress, coming just a month after party leader Milind Deora left and switched to the saffron party.

Deora’s family has had a long association with the Congress, with his father Murli Deora being one of the prominent leaders in the state. Chavan took over as Maharashtra Chief Minister in December 2008, succeeding Vilasrao Deshmukh, but had to step down in November 2010 due to the Adarsh housing scam.

He served as the president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) from 2014 to 2019.
