Delhi remains shrouded in foggy weather, leading to a drop in the minimum temperature to 6-9 degrees Celsius. Likewise, across Punjab, Haryana, and other northern regions of India, prevailing weather forecasts indicate a continuation of ‘cold day’ conditions until January 5th.
According to the weather department’s Wednesday report, Delhi encountered a low temperature of 7.3 degrees Celsius. The Indian Railways highlighted that 26 trains heading towards Delhi faced delays due to the prevailing fog. Authorities mentioned that while visibility showed a slight improvement in various parts of the capital, Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, registered a visibility of 200 meters at 8:30 am on Wednesday.
Authorities in Noida and Greater Noida, situated in Uttar Pradesh, have issued directives to shut down schools for students up to Class 8 until January 6 due to the severe cold weather conditions prevailing in the district.
The weather department observed widespread fog over several regions including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, north Madhya Pradesh, and Assam through satellite imagery on Wednesday morning.
Anticipating dense to very dense fog during night and morning hours, Punjab and Haryana are expected to experience these conditions from January 2 to 5, with isolated pockets facing similar fog for two more days. Similar conditions are forecasted for certain areas of Rajasthan on January 3 and 4, along with isolated pockets in north Madhya Pradesh on January 3.
Moreover, cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely to persist in many parts of Punjab and Haryana on January 3 and in some parts on January 4.
In the coming days, minimum temperatures in east India are expected to remain steady before rising by 2-3 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Central India may see a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next three days, followed by no significant changes thereafter.
