“Supreme Court Imposes Rs 1 Crore Fine on Patanjali for False Claims: A Landmark Verdict”

The Supreme Court has issued a warning to yoga guru Ramdev-led Patanjali Ayurveda regarding their “misleading” claims in advertisements. In the event that a false claim is made by the company stating that their product can cure a specific disease, a fine of Rs 1 will be imposed on each product. Additionally, a fine of Rs crore will also be imposed.

On August 23, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) filed a petition against Patanjali Ayurveda, a company co-founded by yoga guru Ramdev that specializes in herbal products. The top court issued a notice to Patanjali, as well as the Union Health Ministry and AYUSH Ministry, regarding allegations of a defamation campaign against the vaccination drive and modern medicine.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) filed a plea, and during the hearing, the bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra instructed Patanjali Ayurved to cease all false and deceptive advertisements immediately. The court emphasized that any violation of this directive will be taken very seriously. Furthermore, the bench directed Patanjali Ayurveda to refrain from publishing misleading claims and advertisements against modern systems of medicine.

During the hearing, the bench urged Patanjali Ayurveda to refrain from publishing misleading claims and advertisements against modern medicine. The top court also highlighted the issue of false claims made by certain products that can cure specific diseases and suggested imposing a fine of Rs 1 crore on each such product. The counsel representing the Centre raised concerns about misleading medical treatment. The court has been asked to find a solution to advertisements that make claims about medicines providing accurate treatment for certain diseases. The bench is scheduled to hear the IMA’s petition on February 5. In response to the petition, the top court issued a notice and strongly reprimanded Ramdev for criticizing allopathy and allopathic doctors. The court emphasized the need to prevent misbehavior with doctors and other systems of treatment.
