The father of the 17-year-old teenager involved in the fatal Porsche accident in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area has been apprehended in Aurangabad, as per NDTV’s report on May 21. He is a well-known real estate developer in Pune.
Pune Police has charged the developer under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, according to the NDTV report. Section 75 addresses the deliberate neglect of a child, while Section 77 concerns providing intoxicating substances to a minor.
On May 20, the juvenile justice board (JJB) granted bail to the teenager, who was discovered to be driving under the influence. As a condition of the bail, he must compose an essay on the accident and collaborate with traffic police for 15 days.
Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar informed ANI that the bar manager and owner who served alcohol to the underage driver on the day of the incident have also been detained by the city police.
Two killed, families devastated
According to a report by NDTV, the family of 24-year-old IT engineer Aneesh Awadhiya in Birsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district, was devastated upon receiving his body early Tuesday morning.
Expressing both grief and anger, Aneesh’s father, Atmaram Awadhiya, criticized the decision to grant bail to the teenage driver involved in the accident. He stated, “Two people have lost their lives in this incident, which is completely unjust. We demand severe punishment for the accused, and the bail granted to them should be revoked.”
Akhilesh Awadhiya, Aneesh’s uncle, spoke to NDTV and described the death of the victim as “murder, not an accident,” emphasizing that the accused minor was driving at a speed of 240 km/hour.
Meanwhile, the family of the second victim, 24-year-old IT professional Ashwini Koshta, expressed their grief and outrage upon receiving her body in Jabalpur. They have vowed to fight against the bail granted to the accused.
Suresh Koshta, Ashwini’s father, spoke to ANI and stressed the need for action to ensure that “people learn a lesson.” He stated, “According to the regulations, appropriate action should be taken against the accused to serve as a deterrent… Ashwini completed her studies in Pune and secured a job there.”
Jugal Kishor Koshta, Ashwini’s uncle, expressed shock and condemned the fact that the accused was granted bail within 15 hours. He called for an investigation into the accused and their parents. Jugal Kishor Koshta added that the family would discuss the matter further once Ashwini’s last rites were completed. He also mentioned that Ashwini had numerous aspirations, including excelling in her career and making her parents proud, and that their grief was indescribable.
