WhatsApp, a widely-used messaging application, enables billions of users to connect with each other on a daily basis. However, there are instances where we may need to message a stranger on WhatsApp but are hesitant to share our phone number. For example, when calling a cab and the driver requests our location, we may not want to reveal the phone number associated with our WhatsApp account.
Fortunately, it seems that WhatsApp has recognized these concerns and is striving to enhance user privacy. Recent reports suggest that WhatsApp is developing a feature that will enable users to connect with each other without the need to disclose their phone numbers.
WhatsApp will soon allow users to connect with each other without the need to share their phone numbers.
Once the user chooses a username, their phone number remains private. This extra layer of security ensures that users can communicate with others without revealing their personal contact details. Also, users will be able to change their username whenever they want.
And that’s not all, WhatsApp is also working on a feature to let people search for other users by using this unique username.
The screenshot shared by WA Beta Info revealed that users can look for other people by entering their username in the search bar. Thus, people will no longer need a person’s phone number to be able to find them on WhatsApp and will be able to connect with them by just entering their username. This feature too, will be available in both mobile and web versions of the app.
WhatsApp web’s new dark mode
According to a recent article on WA Beta Info, WhatsApp is currently developing a new background color for the dark theme of its web version. This update aims to reduce eye strain for users in low-light environments. The article further explains that the new color, specifically designed for the dark theme, will transition from #111b20 to #12181c. This subtle yet significant change is expected to enhance the visual appeal of the interface. Although WhatsApp has not officially confirmed this update, the report suggests that it will be available to a select group of beta testers in a future update. Additionally, WhatsApp is also making adjustments to the sidebar of its web version.
