Former Congress leader Sonia Gandhi emphasized the party’s unwavering support for women, promising to improve their circumstances during challenging times. She praised their significant role in the freedom struggle and the development of modern India. In a video address during the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election, she announced the introduction of the Mahalakshmi scheme, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing justice to women who are struggling amidst soaring inflation.
Gandhi stated, “Through the Congress’s ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme, we will provide ₹1 lakh annually to women from impoverished backgrounds.” She highlighted the transformative impact of Congress’s initiatives in states like Karnataka and Telangana, such as MGNREGA, Right to Information, Right to Education, and Food Security, which have empowered millions of families. Gandhi emphasized that Mahalakshmi represents the party’s commitment to advancing its efforts in serving the people.
Mahalakshmi, one of the five pre-poll guarantees of the Congress, has been modeled after the Gruhalakshmi scheme in Karnataka. In a recent post, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared his mother’s message to women voters on X. He emphasized that each vote holds the value of ₹1 lakh annually in their accounts. Rahul Gandhi highlighted the significance of the Mahalaxmi scheme, stating that it would provide much-needed support to women facing challenges due to inflation and unemployment. By directly depositing ₹8,500 into their bank accounts every month, women in India will gain financial independence and have the ability to shape their family’s future. Rahul Gandhi urged women to exercise their right to vote and bring about positive changes in their circumstances.
Sonia Gandhi, renowned for her instrumental role in Congress’s resurgence in 2004, is not anticipated to engage in physical campaigning. Instead, she is likely to conduct her canvassing efforts online. This year, Sonia Gandhi transitioned to the Rajya Sabha after serving as a member of the Lok Sabha for almost 25 years, citing health and age-related considerations.
