A few days ago, the sudden departure of Sam Altman from OpenAI garnered significant attention. The young founder of the startup was dismissed by the OpenAI board, with Ilya Sutskever playing a prominent role in Altman’s exit. Sutskever later expressed remorse for his actions. Altman eventually returned as the CEO of OpenAI, replacing all previous board members and establishing a completely new board.
In a press release, Altman expressed his admiration and respect for Ilya, considering him a guiding force in the field and a remarkable individual. Altman also stated that he harbors no ill feelings towards Sutskever and although he won’t be part of the board, the OpenAI team looks forward to collaborating with him in the future.
However, recent reports suggest that Sutskever’s future with OpenAI remains uncertain, as no official announcement has been made regarding his role. Currently, he is not a member of the OpenAI board.
Interestingly, amidst all these developments, there is someone who desires Sutskever’s expertise. That person is none other than Elon Musk.
A Twitter user shared the news of Sutskever’s uncertain future at OpenAI, suggesting that the former board member should consider working at Elon Musk’s Tesla. Musk responded to the tweet, stating, “Or xAI.” This indicates that the tech magnate is open to the idea of Sutskever joining his newly established AI company, XAI.
For those unfamiliar, xAI recently launched its own AI chatbot named Grok. This chatbot is exclusively available to X Premium subscribers and possesses a sense of humor along with “rebellious tendencies.”
Ilya Sutskever expressed his immense happiness regarding Sam Altman’s return, stating that no sentence in any language can adequately convey his joy. Previously, Sutskever had expressed deep regret for his involvement in Altman’s departure and emphasized his love for the collaborative work they had accomplished at OpenAI. He pledged to make every effort to reconcile and reunite the company. OpenAI, in a tweet announcing Altman’s return, mentioned reaching an agreement with him, confirming his reinstatement as CEO. Additionally, they revealed plans to establish a new board consisting of three prominent members: Brett Taylor as Chairman, Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo. The OpenAI team, alongside Altman, is currently working on finalizing the remaining details.
