Elon Musk delays trip to India, citing ‘significant’ Tesla commitments!

Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s planned two-day trip to India, during which he was set to reveal intentions to enter the Indian market, has been rescheduled. Musk was originally set to arrive in India on April 21 and 22 to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a statement shared on X, Elon Musk explained that his visit to India had to be postponed due to “very heavy Tesla obligations.” “Regrettably, the demanding obligations at Tesla necessitate the delay of the India visit, but I eagerly anticipate visiting later this year,” Musk tweeted.

Reportedly, Musk is required to participate in an important conference call on April 23 in the United States to address inquiries regarding Tesla’s performance in the first quarter.

Just last week, Musk expressed his anticipation of meeting with PM Modi in a post on X.

Musk, who is also the owner of SpaceX, was anticipated to disclose an investment of $2-3 billion for establishing a factory for entry-level vehicles as part of Tesla Inc’s awaited entry into the Indian market. The government recently introduced a policy that reduces high tariffs on imported vehicles if companies make local investments.

Additionally, the billionaire entrepreneur was expected to introduce plans for Starlink, a satellite network that offers high-speed internet connectivity.

During his visit, Musk was also set to engage with Indian space technology startups. The government reportedly extended invitations to companies like Skyroot Aerospace, Dhruva Space, Piersight, and Digantara for discussions with the SpaceX CEO in New Delhi.

PM Modi has previously met Elon Musk on two occasions – during a visit to a Tesla plant in 2015 and during his official visit to the US in 2023. In a recent interview, PM Modi highlighted Musk’s support for India, stating, “Elon Musk is not just a supporter of Modi, he is a supporter of India. I have met him. It’s not just about that.”
