On Thursday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Dubai, UAE, to participate in the World Climate Action Summit at the United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate (COP28). The Indian community in Dubai gave him a cordial reception, which included a traditional dance performance.
In a video shared by news agency ANI, the diaspora members can be observed enthusiastically chanting slogans such as ‘Modi, Modi’, ‘This time Modi government’, and ‘Vande Mataram’. Additionally, in a separate video, Prime Minister Modi can be witnessed engaging in handshakes and interactions with the members.
The COP28 Summit is sheduled to occur between November 30 and December 12, with the UAE serving as the host country.
According to ANI, a member of the Indian diaspora expressed immense delight upon meeting PM Modi and remarked, “Despite residing in the UAE for two decades, today it felt as though one of our own has graced this nation… The individual who brings honor to India globally is truly a gem of our country.” Another member also conveyed their happiness at witnessing PM Modi’s presence and emphasized the necessity of a leader like him for the world.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Modi also conveyed his delight upon meeting the Indian community in Dubai and posted numerous images on X, previously referred to as Twitter. “I am profoundly touched by the warm reception from the Indian community in Dubai. Their backing and eagerness serve as evidence of our lively culture and robust connections,” he stated.
PM Modi is scheduled to attend the opening session of the World Climate Action Summit, which is the high-level segment of COP28, on Friday. He will also participate in three other high-level side events during his visit to Dubai. In a statement before his departure, Modi expressed his belief that COP28 will provide an opportunity to assess the progress made under the Paris Agreement and establish a path for future climate action. The UAE is hosting the COP28 Summit from November 30 to December 12, and it is expected to emphasize the importance of collective action to combat climate change and the crucial role of finance in the low-carbon transition. Additionally, the summit is likely to focus on providing funding for climate action in poorer countries from wealthier nations.
