A medical professional indicated that the autopsy report of the 31-year-old woman who was murdered at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata implies that she was a victim of gang rape. In a discussion with India Today, Dr. Subarna Goswami stated that the severity of the injuries sustained by the trainee doctor could not have been inflicted by a single individual.
Dr. Goswami noted that the autopsy report revealed the presence of 151 grams of liquid from the vaginal swab. “Such a quantity cannot originate from one person. It indicates the involvement of several individuals,” Dr. Goswami, who also serves as the additional general secretary of the All India Federation of Government Doctors’ Association, explained. A vaginal swab test is conducted to confirm penile penetration by identifying sperm or components of seminal fluid in the vaginal fluid of victims of rape and sexual assault.
The physician mentioned that even the victim’s family suspected the involvement of multiple perpetrators in this heinous act, which has sparked widespread outrage and protests among medical professionals across various states.
“The nature of the injuries and the force applied cannot be attributed to a single individual,” Dr. Goswami added.
The body of the post-graduate trainee was discovered in a seminar room of the West Bengal government-run hospital on Friday morning, found in a semi-nude state. A civic volunteer associated with Kolkata Police, Sanjoy Roy, has been apprehended in relation to this case.
WHAT POST-MORTEM REPORT SAID
The post-mortem examination indicated that the trainee physician had been strangled prior to being suffocated. The report noted that her thyroid cartilage was fractured as a result of the strangulation, and a significant injury was discovered in her genital area, attributed to “perverted sexuality” and “genital torture.”
Additionally, the report detailed injuries located on her abdomen, lips, fingers, and left leg. It also stated that the victim exhibited bleeding from both her eyes and mouth.
According to sources referencing the report, the doctor’s nose and mouth were restrained, and her head was forcefully pressed against a wall to inhibit her from vocalizing distress. Evidence of scratch marks was also observed on her face.
The report elaborated, stating, “The mouth and throat were consistently compressed to prevent any screams. The throat was constricted to induce suffocation, resulting in the fracture of the thyroid cartilage.”
Family members of the trainee doctor described the appalling state in which her body was discovered. A relative remarked, “Her legs were positioned at a 90-degree angle… such a position is only possible if the pelvic girdle is fractured, indicating she was violently torn apart.”
Furthermore, the relative noted, “Her glasses were shattered, and fragments of glass were found in her eyes. She was ultimately choked to death.”
