NH44, also known as National Highway 44, is one of the longest and most important national highways in India. It is part of the National Highway network managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

It also passes through Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Uttar Pradesh, as well as the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu.

Srinagar is the starting point for NH 44, which covers the entire North-South corridor of the National Highway Development Plan (NHDP). It’s officially said to cover a distance of 4,112 kilometres between Srinagar and Kanyakumari, making it the longest highway in India.

It is constructed and maintained by the central public works department (CPWD). NH-44 begins at Krishna River Tribuary Tungabhadra River border with Andhra Pradesh, crosses Krishna River and Godavari River, ending at Godavari tributary Penganga River border with Maharashtra.

NH44 is a crucial transportation artery, connecting the northernmost region of India to the southern tip. It facilitates the movement of goods, people, and trade across the country.

It is connected to some major cities and towns include Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, Delhi, Mathura, Agra, Gwalior, Jhansi, Nagpur, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.

NH44 is a four-lane or six-lane highway in most parts, and it’s well-maintained. It’s a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project, which aims to connect major cities in India through high-quality highways.

NH44 offers scenic views of the Indian landscape, ranging from the lush greenery of Jammu and Kashmir to the arid plains of north-central India and the southern coastal areas.

Along NH44, you’ll find various rest stops, dhabas (roadside eateries), petrol stations, and accommodation options for travelers.

NH44 also provides access to several tourist destinations and cultural landmarks, making it an excellent route for road trips and exploration.
