“Connecting Heritage and Progress: Expanding Patna Metro to the Birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh”

On Tuesday (December 26), Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that the Centre is considering the expansion of the Patna Metro Rail network to include the revered Sikh shrine Sri Takht Harmandir Patna Sahib Gurudwara. This decision was made in response to a request made during a function at the Gurudwara, which was attended by various BJP leaders, including Ravi Shankar Prasad. The Gurudwara, located at the birthplace of the 10th Sikh Guru, attracts pilgrims from all over the world, especially during significant events such as ‘Veer Baal Diwas’, which commemorates the martyrdom of two sons of Guru Gobind Singh. The Patna Sahib Gurudwara holds great historical importance as the birthplace of the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh.

The expansion of the Patna Metro Rail was discussed during a function, where Ravi Shankar Prasad requested the extension of the rail up to the Gurudwara. This request has been officially received and Hardeep Singh Puri, the Minister, stated that a survey will be conducted to determine the feasibility of the project. Puri mentioned that they have received a written request from Prasad and will undertake a survey to assess the feasibility.

However, he emphasized that a formal proposal from the Bihar government is necessary for the project to move forward. Puri also highlighted that metro rail projects require collaboration between the Centre and the respective states. While the Centre is open to the idea, Puri stressed the importance of a formal proposal and collaboration with the Bihar government. The Gurudwara holds significance for Sikhs from various parts of the country and abroad, especially during the celebration of ‘Prakash Parv.’ Hardeep Singh Puri, being the only Sikh member in the Narendra Modi cabinet, visited the Gurudwara, interacted with the Sikh community, and met with Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar before departing. Puri expressed his emotional experience at Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib, and praised the initiatives for the Sikh community.
