It’s just four days away before the big festival of folk faith, the Chhath Puja (Chhath festival 2023). It’ll kick off on November 17th with the Naay Khae, and end on November 20th with the Paran. The preparations for this are underway in Patna, with the district administration making sure that all the Ganges ghats are ready for the festivities. The district administration says that all the ghats will be done by the time of the Chhath festival, so there won’t be any issues from the day of the bathing.
DM provided information about Chhath Preparations:
Mr. Chandrashekhar said, “Apart from Patna, many people from rural areas come to various ghats in Patna such as Gaighat ghats, Digha ghats and Sabalpur ghat. It is difficult to reach the ghat in evening and then go to it in the morning. This time, the district administration is constructing temporary passenger sheds on the main main ghats. Passengers coming from far-off places can stay at the passenger shed constructed on Ganga ghat in the night. You can rest and offer arghya to the morning sun. Security personnel and Magistrates will be deployed at all ghats 24 hours a day, including night, so there will be no problem for any Chhath fastner.”
The government and administration are actively involved in Chhath puja preparations. The health department is setting up special arrangements at ghats to handle any medical emergencies. Temporary hospitals with 2-bed capacity are being constructed at the busy Pattipul number 93, Collectorate law college and Gaighat.
Eight ghats in the area that have been declared unsafe:
DM said that the river Ganga’s water level is three kilometers lower this time than last year, so there’s no need to worry about any special issues this time. Plus, the roads leading to these ghats are dry too. Patna’s urban area has 108 ghats, and the district is getting ready for the Chhath celebrations at 100 of them. Out of these, 8 are considered dangerous, like the LCT ghat and the Raja Pul ghat, so the district administration will be keeping an eye on them to make sure no one gets in.
We’ll have cops all over the place – DM!
Chandrashekhar also said that all the Chhath-celebrating ghats had toilets, drinking water, and watch tower lights for safety. He also said that bamboo was being used to barricade the river at each ghat, so people wouldn’t have to go into the deep water. He also said there would be changing rooms, full lighting, and police in every corner of the ghats.
