Chennai heavily affected by rain, resulting in extensive traffic jams. Meteorologists predict that additional showers are likely to occur in the future !

Chennai: The heavy rainfall in parts of the Chennai district on Sunday evening caused traffic to move at a very slow pace, resulting in severe road jams for commuters. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted rain for the next seven days in various districts of Tamil Nadu. Specifically, the RMC has forecasted heavy rains at isolated places in ten districts of the state for Sunday.

These districts include Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Puducherry. The recent heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats led to a flash flood at the Old Courtallam Falls in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu. As a result, tourists are not allowed to bathe near the waterbodies adjacent to the falls, which is a popular tourist attraction in the district. Many tourists expressed disappointment as they were not aware of this restriction, especially since it was a weekend.

Tamil Nadu has been experiencing unprecedented rainfall, with Cyclone Michaung causing significant damage in Chennai and surrounding districts. The southern districts of Tamil Nadu have also been affected by heavy rainfalls. These continuous rains have resulted in substantial losses of public and private property in the state.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has requested ₹ 12,000 crore in central aid and ₹ 7,300 crore as immediate relief to address the damages caused by the flood.
