According to the Economic Times, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has requested the Bureau of Immigration (BOI) to issue a look out circular (LOC) against Byju Raveendran, the founder and CEO of Byju’s. This action was taken by the ED to ensure that Byju Raveendran does not leave the country. The report states that the look out circular was issued over one and a half years ago at the request of the ED. Additionally, in November last year, the ED issued show-cause notices to Byju’s parent company, Think & Learn Pvt Ltd, and Byju Raveendran himself, regarding alleged violations of ₹9,362.35 crore under FEMA. The ED has stated that the company made significant foreign remittances and investments abroad, which were believed to be in violation of the provisions of FEMA, 1999, and resulted in a loss of revenue for the Indian government.
