BJP’s Momentum: Ghaziabad Prepares for PM Modi’s Roadshow in Western Uttar Pradesh

Narendra Modi’s procession on April 6th is planned to traverse approximately 800 meters of Ambedkar Road, stretching from Maliwara to Chaudhary Morh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is focusing on winning 13 Lok Sabha seats in western Uttar Pradesh. They are organizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow in Ghaziabad on Saturday evening. Atul Garg, the sitting MLA, has been chosen as the BJP candidate from Ghaziabad and his nomination was approved after scrutiny on Friday.

Ghaziabad is scheduled to vote on April 26, during the second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has initiated their campaign early in Ghaziabad this time, bringing in prominent figures like Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Union defence minister Rajnath Singh for meetings and rallies in Ghaziabad. Adityanath conducted an “intellectuals’ meet” in Ghaziabad on March 27, while Singh held a rally at Ghanta Ghar Ramlila Ground on April 3.

Modi’s roadshow, scheduled for Saturday, will cover approximately 800 meters of Ambedkar Road, stretching from Maliwara to Chaudhary Morh. This route encompasses several significant markets, residential colonies, offices, and commercial establishments. According to BJP office-bearers, this roadshow is expected to have a positive impact on 13 seats in western Uttar Pradesh.

Chandra Mohan, spokesperson for BJP (Uttar Pradesh), stated, “The roadshow by the PM will have an impact on 13 seats in western Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Meerut, and Baghpat, among others. The roadshow will energize party workers and inspire them to secure a resounding victory for our candidates.”

However, sources within the party acknowledged that there are challenges in seats such as Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Baghpat, and Meerut due to various caste equations and the denial of tickets to certain candidates who had strong chances of winning.

In response to Modi’s proposed rally, Congress office-bearers commented that by bringing in their top leaders so early in the campaign, the BJP is implicitly acknowledging that “something is amiss in the Ghaziabad seat.”

The initial stage of the BJP’s campaign in Ghaziabad has seen the arrival of their top leaders, indicating a sense of concern about the situation in the area. Vinit Tyagi, district president of the Congress, mentioned that accountability will fall on the candidates rather than the leadership if the seat is lost. Despite these tactics, Tyagi expressed confidence in their strong candidate who has the support of the INDIA bloc partners. The Ghaziabad seat is traditionally considered a stronghold of the BJP, with Rajnath Singh, Gen VK Singh (retired), and now Garg being key figures in previous elections.

The BJP is preparing for a roadshow on Ambedkar Road, with fresh paint on central verges and the relocation of electricity poles. The Ghaziabad police have implemented a multilayered security plan for Modi’s roadshow, with an estimated 6,000 personnel deployed for duty. Security measures include ground and rooftop personnel, security checks for the public entering the roadshow route, and traffic diversions announced by the traffic police. Additional Commissioner of Police Dinesh Kumar P emphasized the importance of security checks and traffic restrictions during the event.

The movement of private two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles will be restricted starting from 3pm on 14 major road stretches, as per officials. These include: Rakesh Marg to Chaudhary Morh; Lohia Nagar Tiraha to Old Bus Stand; RDC Bridge Hapur Chungi Side to Old bus stand; Sihani Gate Police Station to Old Bus Stand; Ghukna Mode to Meerut Tiraha Siddharth Vihar intersection to Meerut Tiraha; Basant Chowk to Maliwara Chowk; Ramte Ram Road to Maliwara Chowk; Ramte Ram Road to Chaudhary Mode/Ghantaghar; Gaushala to Dudhevshranath Temple; Vijaynagar Dhobi Ghat Railway Bridge to Chaudhary Morh; Meerut Tiraha U-turn to Hapur Tiraha; Nandgram Tiraha to Meerut Tiraha and Rotary Roundabout to Hindon River Metro station.
