BJP Expels Actor-Politician Pawan Singh for Running Against NDA Candidate

Pawan Singh, the Bhojpuri actor-turned-politician, has been expelled by the BJP on Wednesday. This action was taken due to his decision to contest as an independent candidate from the Karakat Lok Sabha seat of Bihar, going against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Upendra Kushwaha. Singh’s nomination filing on May 9 put an end to weeks of speculation surrounding his candidacy from Karakat.

In a letter addressed to Pawan Singh, the BJP expressed that his decision was deemed “anti-party” and had a detrimental effect on the party’s reputation, contradicting its core principles.

On June 1, Karakat will hold its elections, marking the seventh and final phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Apart from Kushwaha, a former Union Minister and leader of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, the Mahagathbandhan’s Rajaram Singh and AIMIM’s Priyanka Chaudhary are also competing for the south Bihar seat.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Pawan Singh emphasized the importance of winning the trust of the public through public service. However, Pawan Singh’s decision to run against Kushwaha has faced criticism from several BJP leaders, including Union Minister RK Singh, who is seeking re-election from the neighboring Arrah Lok Sabha seat.
