Bahraich News: Protest Erupts in Bahraich, Shops and Hospital Torched Amid Rising Communal Tensions in UP !

Tension increased on Monday, a day after a fight during the Durga idol immersion ceremony in the Uttar Pradesh district of Bahraich claimed the life of a 22-year-old. Numerous groups of people were observed wandering the streets with iron rods and sticks. Protesters burned a hospital and set fire to a number of stores and cars.

The deceased, Ram Gopal Mishra of the village of Rehua Mansoor, was shot on Sunday as he was participating in the parade. Following an urgent hospitalization, he passed away while receiving care.

While the parade was going through a predominantly Muslim region, violence broke out. Tension inside the community arose from arguments between the two groups, which led to Mishra’s death from gunfire and stone-throwing.

Bahraich Sub-region A lawsuit has been filed against a person known only as Salman, according to Vrinda Shukla. His home, which doubles as a shop, was the source of gunfire. In relation to the disturbances, police have also arrested about thirty persons and held a flag march through the neighborhood.

Authorities said that after some miscreants tried to cause disruption, the other processions were also stopped at other locations.

In order to prevent any unpleasant incidents in the area and to regulate any disinformation being propagated via social media platforms, the administration has suspended internet services in Bahraich.

Along with hundreds of residents, Mishra’s family members staged a protest in the streets with his body, demanding justice.

Sanjeev Gupta, the home secretary, and Amitabh Yash, the additional director general of police (law and order), have arrived to assess the situation.

“The situation is being brought under control and anti-social elements are being chased away,” Bahraich, the SP, stated.

According to media accounts, this is Yogi’s first instance of communal violence during his second term as chief minister. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, condemned the violence and gave the administration instructions to get in touch with religious groups and complete the idol immersions on schedule. Additionally, he gave the police orders to staff the immersion locations.

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya responded to the violence by posting on X, saying, “Any plot to undermine Uttar Pradesh’s peace and harmony will not succeed.” Though we must exercise caution and vigilance, those who shield the rioters are resuming their activities.”

Akhilesh Yadav, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and leader of the Samajwadi Party, commented on the violence in Bahraich, saying, “I would like to appeal that all the concerned parties should work towards maintaining law and order.” It is regrettable what transpired. The government, administration, and media are aware of the reasons behind it. Justice should be served by the government…The administration ought to have noted the procession’s route and provided enough protection when it started.”
