New Delhi: A case has been filed by the Delhi Police on Sunday in relation to a manipulated video circulating on social media platforms depicting Union Home Minister Amit Shah advocating for the removal of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The video, which has caused controversy and accusations of spreading false information, has led the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to lodge a complaint seeking action against those responsible for its creation.
In response to the concerns raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the authenticity of the video, the Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday. The BJP has criticized the video, stating that it has been manipulated to distort Mr. Shah’s original statements made during a political rally.
As per BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya, the video in question has been edited to misinterpret Mr. Shah’s comments on the issue of reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana.
The dissemination of a manipulated video by Congress, which is entirely fabricated and has the potential to instigate widespread violence, has sparked a heated controversy. Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks about removing the unconstitutional reservation granted to Muslims based on religion, after reducing the share of SCs/STs and OBCs, were distorted in this fake video, which has been shared by multiple Congress spokespersons. Mr. Malviya emphasized that they should be prepared to face legal consequences.
The situation surrounding the video has intensified as various social media accounts, including official ones affiliated with Congress, shared the altered footage, alleging that it exposed the BJP’s intention to abolish SC/ST reservation quotas. These claims have faced strong criticism from BJP leaders, who accuse Congress of spreading false information that could incite social discord.
To support their complaint, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has provided a comprehensive report identifying the links and accounts responsible for sharing the manipulated video of the Home Minister. With the registration of the FIR, the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell has initiated an investigation into the origins of this fabricated video.
