Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Russia to attend Kazan, Russia, for the 16th Brics Summit. The Prime Minister will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin one-on-one when he arrives.
In addition to Putin, the prime minister is expected to meet with President Xi Jinping of China and have one-on-one discussions with the heads of the other Brics countries.
In a statement, PM Modi stated that “India values the close cooperation within Brics which has emerged as an important platform for dialogue and discussion on issues concerning the global developmental agenda, reformed multilateralism, climate change, economic cooperation, building resilient supply chains, promoting cultural and people to people connect” .
“Further reinforce the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between India and Russia, he said his visit to Kazan will accomplish.
The conference follows continuous world turmoil, such as the Middle East crisis and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Vinay Kumar, India’s ambassador to Russia, emphasized the country’s role as a strong champion for peace and conflict resolution through diplomacy and negotiation during a recent interview with India Today TV.
“The matter has been talked about and discussed. India has always maintained that the parties involved must cooperate and use diplomacy and communication to resolve the dispute,” he said.
Putin called Prime Minister Modi a “friend” last month and thanked India for helping to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
At this point, the Prime Minister received an invitation from the Russian President to attend the Brics Summit.
Two months after PM Modi called him and urged an early end to the two-year conflict, Putin acknowledged the situation. In August, PM Modi also visited Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Prime Minister is in Russia for the second time this year. He was in Moscow in July for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. In addition to having bilateral discussions with Putin during this visit, he received the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, Russia’s highest civilian honor.
The agreement between China and India to restart patrols along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh “leading to disengagement” was another noteworthy event that occurred on the eve of the Brics Summit. This marked a significant milestone in the two neighbors’ diplomatic relations.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri mentioned the potential meeting between PM Modi and President Xi when he announced the agreement on Monday.
“We are still working around the time and engagements,” he stated.
“Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security” is the theme of the two-day Summit, which will give leaders a crucial forum to address significant global challenges.
It will also present a useful chance to evaluate the success of the nine-nation alliance’s programs and to pinpoint possible areas for further cooperation.
