With the groundbreaking ceremony for its forthcoming world-class production facility at Panapakkam in the Ranipet region of Tamil Nadu, Tata Motors made yet another significant advancement in the global automotive industry. Tata Motors and JLR will use this production facility to produce next-generation vehicles that will be sold in India and abroad.
The Chairman of Tata Sons & Tata Motors, N. Chandrasekaran, was present when Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin lay the foundation stone for this plant. The government of Tamil Nadu and the firm previously inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) stipulating that the domestic automaker would invest Rs 9,000 crore in this greenfield manufacturing site.
Over 250,000 cars might be produced annually at the plant according to its design. Over the course of the following five to seven years, production will gradually rise to attain this capacity after starting slowly at first. According to Tata, there could be over 5,000 job opportunities created by this cutting-edge, modern manufacturing plant (direct and indirect)
“We are pleased to make Panapakkam the home of our next generation of cars and SUVs, including electric and luxury vehicles,” stated N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, during his remarks at the event. Tamil Nadu is a well-known industrial state with progressive laws, a thriving automobile industry, and a skilled labor force.
Tata Motors hopes that by providing this facility, the surrounding people would be better equipped with skills for the future. Furthermore, the plant will operate entirely on renewable energy and adhere to ecological norms.
It was announced earlier in April of this year that Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) parent company, Tata Motors, plans to produce high-end automobiles under British labels in India. This would result in cheaper purchase prices for the nation’s Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles, which are presently limited to entirely imported CBUs. In addition, the factory will run entirely on renewable energy and adhere to sustainability norms.
