At an engineering college in the Andhra Pradesh region of Krishna, a concealed camera was found in a females’ hostel restroom, and the videos were purportedly shared among the students. This discovery sparked a protest.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has commanded an investigation into the situation. In relation to the incident, a final-year student has been detained and a case has been filed.
Students claim that more than 300 recordings were made and shared across the males’ dorm. After a student discovered the camera, which was installed inside the Gudlavalleru College of Engineering dorm, other students staged a protest on Thursday night, voicing grave worries for their safety and privacy.
Hundreds of students gathered at the institution, chanting “we want justice” and demanding harsh punishment for whoever was behind the covert camera and responsible for spreading the videos.
A final-year engineering student who was allegedly engaged in installing the camera was taken into custody when police were summoned in the midst of the demonstration. According to officials, the student’s identity has not been revealed, and more inquiries are still underway.
The college administration, however, asserted that no covert cameras had been discovered in the females’ dorm and said they were assisting the police investigation. They also pledged to strengthen campus security.
According to the police, no damning evidence was found during their examination of the accused’s laptops, cell phones, and other electronic devices in front of students and college employees.
As the demonstration persisted, Superintendent of Police Gangadhar Rao and Krishna District Collector DK Balaji arrived at the institute.
