Students in Delhi have continued their protests against coaching centres following the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants in the basement of Rau’s IAS coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar. The protests have now spread to other coaching centre hubs such as Mukherjee Nagar. Rajiv Sinha, the sub-divisional magistrate of Model Town, met with students in Mukherjee Nagar to listen to their grievances.
The students are demanding action against coaching centres, landowners, and officials responsible for the illegal use of basements. They are also calling for measures to address waterlogging in the area, which is prone to flooding due to inadequate drainage systems.
The deaths occurred on Saturday when rainwater flooded the basement of the coaching centre. The police and fire department were alerted at around 7:10 pm. Efforts were made to pump out the water and a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was called in to assist with the rescue.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a committee to investigate the incident and submit a report within 30 days. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has sealed 20 coaching centres for violating basement bylaws.
Students continue protest for third day today
Civil services aspirants and local residents maintained their protest outside Rau’s coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar for the third consecutive day on Tuesday. The demonstration is directed against the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the administration of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, following the tragic deaths of three students due to flooding in the centre’s basement after heavy rainfall on Saturday.
The Delhi coaching centre has been inundated. The Delhi High Court is expected to address a petition tomorrow that calls for the establishment of a high-level committee to investigate the Rajendra Nagar incident, which led to the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants. Advocate Rudra Singh presented the plea before a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela. The court indicated that the matter would be scheduled for tomorrow, provided the petition is properly submitted by 12:30 PM today.
After Delhi tragedy, Patna’s district magistrate directs an investigation of all coaching centres
An investigation has been ordered by the district magistrate of Patna into all coaching centres in the area following the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants due to flooding at Rau’s IAS coaching centre in Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar. Officials have been instructed to assess various aspects of the coaching centres, such as their condition, security measures, fire exits, emergency provisions, and entry/exit points.
People bid goodbye to deceased IAS student Nivin Dalvin’s body at residence
The deceased IAS student, Nivin Dalvin, who tragically passed away from drowning at an IAS coaching institute in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar on July 27th, was honored by mourners paying their final respects at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
20 coaching centres sealed till now by MCD
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has closed down 20 coaching centers so far for illegally using basements as libraries, which goes against the building regulations of Delhi. This action comes after the tragic incident of three IAS aspirants losing their lives in a flooded basement at a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi.
