Delhi Rau’s IAS Centre Flooding Updates: 5 More Arrested Following Deaths of 3 Aspirants

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi took action on Sunday by sealing the basements of 13 other civil service coaching centres in Delhi following the tragic incident at a coaching centre in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, where 3 students lost their lives. The crackdown was a response to the demands of protesting students for justice and action against the illegal use of basements.

Rau’s IAS coaching centre had around 30 students, with 12 to 14 being rescued and taken to the hospital, while others were able to escape. Unfortunately, three students lost their lives due to being trapped in the flooded basement.

The incident occurred at 6:35 pm on Saturday when rainwater flooded the basement. Authorities were alerted at around 7:10 pm, prompting immediate pumping of water from the basement. However, the rescue operation required an NDRF team with divers to reach the trapped students.

The basement in question was designated as a parking and storage area in the building plan submitted for a No-Objection-Certificate (NOC), however, it was being utilized as a library.

Shashi Tharoor and Jebi Mather, Members of Parliament from Congress, will be meeting with the families of deceased students.

Shashi Tharoor expressed his dismay over the incident, emphasizing the need for compensation for the affected families. He stressed the importance of preventing such tragedies from occurring in the future to avoid further suffering and loss.

BJP MP blames AAP, says MCD under their control

BJP Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal emphasized the importance of AAP taking responsibility for the tragic deaths of 3 IAS aspirants in a flooded coaching centre basement. He pointed out that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi falls under AAP’s jurisdiction, and the party has been in power in Delhi for nearly a decade. Khandelwal highlighted the recurring nature of such incidents and criticized AAP for failing to implement effective measures to address the problem. Additionally, he stressed the need for severe punishment for those accountable, stating that merely sealing basements was not a sustainable solution.

Five more suspects have been apprehended in connection with the coaching institute deaths, making a total of seven arrests

Five additional individuals have been apprehended in connection with the coaching institute deaths, bringing the total number of people involved to seven. DCP Harsha Vardhan stated, “Anyone found responsible for this incident will face consequences. We are enforcing strict measures against those accountable and upholding law and order in the vicinity.” Additionally, DCP Harsha Vardhan mentioned that one of the individuals detained had crashed into the building’s gate, causing damage.
