“Emergency: Government Designates June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’”

The Central government, under the leadership of the BJP, proclaimed that June 25 will be designated as Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas to honor the declaration of the Emergency. The Congress government, led by Indira Gandhi, enforced the Emergency on June 25, 1975, resulting in the suspension of a majority of civil rights for a duration of over two years.

The Government of India announced a state of Emergency on June 25, 1975, which led to widespread misuse of authority. The people of India were subjected to extreme acts of injustice and brutality during this time. As a result, the government has declared June 25 as “Constitutional Murder Day” to honor those who endured and resisted the abuse of power during the Emergency, and to reaffirm the commitment of the Indian people to never condone such abuse of power in the future.

Amit Shah stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision aims to pay tribute to the countless individuals who fought to restore democracy, even in the face of unjust persecution from a tyrannical regime.

The commemoration of ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ will serve to uphold the eternal flame of individual freedom and the protection of our democracy in every Indian, thus thwarting dictatorial forces like the Congress from repeating such atrocities,” he penned in a statement.

The minister further accused former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of openly displaying a dictatorial attitude.
“On June 25, 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in a bold exhibition of a dictatorial attitude, suffocated the essence of our democracy by declaring the Emergency across the nation. Countless individuals were unjustly imprisoned, and the media’s voice was muzzled,” he elaborated.

On June 25, Prime Minister Modi stated that those responsible for the Emergency have no authority to claim their allegiance to the Constitution. His comments came after the Opposition protested inside the Lok Sabha by brandishing copies of the Constitution.
