The followers of Shankar and Kamal Haasan’s 1996 iconic vigilante movie Indian have been anticipating the sequel for nearly 20 years. Nevertheless, based on the responses on X, it seems that the audience who attended the early morning screenings of the film were not satisfied.
What are fans saying?
An X user posted on Friday morning that the performances in #Indian2 were disappointing. Even the skilled #KamalHaasan couldn’t rescue the film from its downfall. His character seemed like a repetition of his past roles, missing the complexity and subtlety that defined him as a legend. The supporting actors didn’t fare any better, failing to make a lasting impression.
Another individual commented that the movie was a complete disaster, with the exception of grandeur in every frame. Despite the closing shots offering some optimism, it felt more like a 2.58-hour prelude to the #Indian3, which is something they personally do not want to see happen. Another tweet criticized Shankar for not knowing what to do with the grand-scale film, citing loud BGM and terrible music. The writing, makeup, and editing teams were also criticized, with a lukewarm assessment of #KamalHaasan’s performance. Another tweet expressed disbelief in #Indian2, particularly in the use of varma hypnosis and #KamalHaasan’s transformation in the climax, questioning whether it was even @shankarshanmugh’s idea to include it.
Some individuals expressed optimism that the shortcomings in Indian 2 would be adequately addressed in Indian 3, which is scheduled for release in theaters next year. A user wrote, “Anticipating #indian3 to deliver. #KamalHaasan sir has put in his utmost effort to create a respectable film (applause emoji). #Siddharth has executed his role flawlessly. The humor is only sporadic. #ComeBackIndian requires a powerful resurgence (red heart emoji).”
