Army vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district were targeted by terrorists for the second time in two days, resulting in one soldier being injured. The initial attack has been repelled, and an ongoing encounter is taking place. Additional troops have been dispatched to the area.
This incident follows the killing of six terrorists in separate encounters in Kulgam district just a day ago. Two soldiers lost their lives during these encounters, with another soldier sustaining injuries. The first encounter occurred in Modergam village, leading to the death of a para-trooper. The operation then escalated into a full-scale assault on a target house where two terrorists were found.
Meanwhile, a fierce gun battle took place in Frisal area, resulting in the deaths of four terrorists. One soldier was killed and another injured during this confrontation. The terrorists killed in Frisal were identified as Yawar Bashir Dar, Zahid Ahmad Dar, Tawheed Ahmad Rather, and Shakeel ah Wani, while those in Madergam were identified as Faisal and Adil.
In Modergam, Para Commando and Lance Naik Pradeep Nain lost their lives in action, while Havaldar Raj Kumar of 1 Rashtriya Rifles was killed in the Frisal area.
In another incident near an army camp in Rajouri district, there were reports of firing resulting in one soldier getting injured. Initial reports indicated a possible overnight terror attack on the Manjakote army camp, but the army has not yet confirmed these reports.
According to security agency sources on Sunday, a Pakistan-based operative of the Resistance Front, a unit of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has been identified as the mastermind behind the recent surge in terror activities in J&K. Saifullah Sajid Jatt, hailing from Shangamanga village in Kasur district of Pakistan’s Punjab, has been labeled as a “hardcore terrorist” by the NIA, with a bounty of ₹ 10 lakh on his head.
J&K has been witnessing a series of terror attacks in recent months.
Just last month, terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district, causing it to fall into a gorge and resulting in the death of nine individuals. Shortly after, two armed terrorists entered a village and opened fire, leading to a gunfight with security forces that resulted in the loss of a CRPF personnel.
