A centrally sponsored scholarship scheme by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for Scheduled Tribe students pursuing education in classes 9th and 10th. Scholarships are paid at the rate of ₹ 225/- per month for Day Scholars and ₹ 525/- per month for Hostellers for a period of 10 months in a year.
Objective:
To support ST children studying in classes 9 and 10 so that the incidence of school dropout is reduced, especially during the transition from primary to secondary stage, and ST students have better opportunities to proceed to the post-matric stage of education.
Scope:
Scholarships under the scheme will be available to ST students for study in India and will be transferred directly to the student’s account. The scholarship will be awarded by the Government of the State/Union Territory where the applicant is based as per the domicile conditions decided by the State/Union Territory.
Benefits of Scholarship:
The rates of scholarship and other grants will be as follows –
Item: Scholarship for 10 months (in ₹)
Day Scholars: Monthly – 225; Annually – 2250.
Hostel: Monthly – 525; Annually – 5250.
Item: Books and Ad-hoc Grants (in ₹)
Day Scholars: Annual – 750.
Hostellers: Annual – 1000.
Item: Additional Disability Allowance (in ₹) (Applicable only to students with disabilities)
Day Scholars: Monthly – 600; Annually – 7200.
Hostel: Monthly – 800; Annually – 9600.
Disability as defined under the Act must be certified by the competent medical authority of the State Government/Union Territory Administration. The provisions of disability allowance will also be applicable to students cured of leprosy and suffering from sickle cell anemia or thalassemia with necessary certificates.
Duration:
The scholarship will be paid for a period of 10 months in any given academic year. The student will receive an additional Disability Allowance for the full 12 months of the scholarship
Renewal:
The scholarship will be renewed once the student passes class X. This is subject to good attendance and good conduct.
Eligibility:
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the student must be a member of the Scheduled tribe, as indicated in the relevant State/Union Territory of the applicant’s domicile (India). The student must be enrolled in a government or State Board of Secondary Education recognized school. The student’s family income must not exceed two lakh rupees per year. The student must have a valid account with a Scheduled bank, linked with an Aadhaar number and a mobile number. The student should not be eligible for any other scholarship. The scholarship for studying in any given class will only be available for one year. If the student has to repeat the same class, they will not be eligible for the same scholarship twice. The scholarship can be renewed for the following class when the student is promoted.
Application Process:
How to apply online-
- The State Governments /UT Administration will try their best to make the portal available for applications by April 1.
- Submit/upload your application to the designated authority before the final deadline for receiving applications.
- The timeline for opening and closing the portal, verifying student and institute, and disbursement of scholarships is as follows.
- Make sure you have the required soft copies ready.
Step 1:
- Visit http://www.scholarships.gov.in/. And click on “New Registration”.
- Guidelines for registration will appear. Scroll to the bottom.
- Read the undertaking carefully. Accept the terms. Click “Continue”.
Step 2:
- A registration form will appear. (*field marked as mandatory)
- Fill the details and click on “Register”.
- Your Application ID and Password will be displayed.
- It will also be sent as SMS to your registered mobile number.
Step 3:
- Go to https://scholarships.gov.in/fresh/newstdRegfrmInstruction
- Click on “Login to Apply”. Enter your Application ID and Password.
- Type the captcha and click on “Login”.
- On the next screen, provide the OTP received on your registered mobile number. You will be directed to the password reset screen.
- Create and confirm a new password.
- Click on “Submit”. You will be directed to the “Applicant’s Dashboard”.
Step 4:
- On the left pane, click on “Application Form”. Fields marked with * are mandatory. Fill the details and upload the documents.
- You can click “Save as Draft” to complete the application later.
- Otherwise, click on “Final Submit” to submit the application.
Required Documents:
- Aadhaar number
- Domicile Certificate
- ST certificate issued by the competent authority of the state
- family income certificate
- disability certificate
- Scanned copy of passport size photo
States/UTs may specify the procedure for issue of ST Certificate, Family Income Certificate and Disability Certificate and the competent authority to issue such certificates. If the State has an online system for issuing such certificates, including certificates of passed examination, the State/UT may link the portal through Digi Locker so that the certificates held in Digi Locker can be automatically retrieved.
Note 1: Self-declaration or affidavits of self-assessment of income will not be accepted and State Governments will make appropriate arrangements to inform the competent income-certificate issuing authority for this purpose.
Note 2: Students need to check the State/NSP portal carefully for the required documents to be uploaded along with the application form.
