Live updates : Assembly Election Results 2024 reveal that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has successfully secured a majority of 42 out of 60 Assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is aiming for a second term in Sikkim. The counting process has concluded in both states. The polling for the 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh and the 32 assembly seats in Sikkim took place on April 19, coinciding with the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
Furthermore, the counting for the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha Assemblies will take place on June 4, along with the counting of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Arunachal Pradesh
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds an advantage in Arunachal Pradesh, having secured victory in 10 out of the 60 seats in the state without any opposition. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein have already emerged victorious in their respective constituencies.
During the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP secured 41 seats in Arunachal Pradesh. The Janata Dal (United) won seven seats, the National People’s Party (NPP) secured five, Congress obtained four, and the Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) managed to secure one seat. Additionally, two independent candidates emerged victorious in the Assembly polls. With the exception of former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who is a Congress MLA, all other Congress members joined the BJP.
In the Assembly Election 2024, Arunachal Pradesh witnessed a voter turnout of 82.95 percent, while it was 82.17 percent in the Assembly Election 2019.
Sikkim
The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) are engaged in a fierce competition in Sikkim. In November 2023, the Hamro Sikkim Party, led by footballer Bhaichung Bhutia, merged with the SDF.
During the 2019 Assembly elections, the SKM won 17 seats, while the SDF secured 15 seats. According to exit polls, it is predicted that the SKM will regain power in the state.
In the Assembly Election 2024, Sikkim witnessed a voter turnout of 79.88 percent, slightly lower than the 81.43 percent recorded in the Assembly Election 2019.
Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim Assembly Election Results 2024 Live: Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh visited Raj Bhavan in Itanagar on Sunday to meet with Governor Lt General KT Parnaik (Retd). During the meeting, he tendered his resignation, along with the Council of Ministers.
