The exit polls for 2024 were made public on Saturday, June 1, immediately after the conclusion of voting for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Will the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secure a sweeping victory for the third consecutive term, or will the INDIA bloc of the Opposition manage to overthrow the BJP this time?
What exit polls mean?
An exit poll is a survey conducted after an election to gauge the overall sentiment of the country. It provides an estimate of the number of seats a political party is expected to secure. It is important to understand that exit polls are distinct from the final election results. The official results of the Lok Sabha Election 2024 will be announced on June 4th by the Election Commission of India.
When will Exit polls be released?
Media outlets began publishing exit polls after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1st. Exit polls are only allowed to be released after the conclusion of voting for an election. The Election Commission enforced a ban on exit polls from 7 a.m. on April 19th until 6:30 p.m. on June 1st, 2024.
The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 took place in seven phases, starting from April 17th and ending on June 1st. These elections were conducted for 543 Lok Sabha seats. The results of the Lok Sabha Elections will be announced on June 4th.
In the meantime, simultaneous assembly elections were conducted in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. The results for the assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are scheduled to be declared on June 2nd, while those for Andhra Pradesh and Odisha will be announced on June 4th.
Today’s Chanakya and News18 Mega Exit Poll predict NDA’s majority win in Maharashtra.
According to the News18 Mega Exit Poll results, the NDA is projected to emerge victorious on 32-35 seats in Maharashtra. On the other hand, the INDIA bloc is expected to secure victory on 15-18 seats. Meanwhile, Today’s Chanakya predicts that the BJP-led NDA may win 33 ± 5 seats, while the Congress and its allies may secure 15 ± 5 seats.
BJP to gain in West Bengal?
According to the Republic-MATRIZE Exit Poll Projection for West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is projected to secure 21-25 seats, whereas the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is projected to win 16-20 seats. It is worth noting that in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP had won 18 seats, while Mamata Banerjee’s TMC had secured 22 seats.
BJP’s hat-trick in Delhi likely
The BJP is poised for a significant victory in Delhi once again. The party has emerged victorious in all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi in the last two elections. It is highly likely that the BJP will secure all seven seats this time as well. According to Today’s Chanakya, the BJP is expected to win 6 ± 1 seats.
