No one knew Mahatma Gandhi…: PM Modi’s significant assertion during the Lok Sabha election.

In a recent interview, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed his views on the global recognition of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. PM Modi highlighted that prior to the release of the acclaimed movie ‘Gandhi’ directed by Richard Attenborough in 1982, the world had limited knowledge about the iconic leader in post-colonial India. During the interview, PM Modi emphasized the responsibility of Indian political leaders in the 75 years since independence to ensure that the world is aware of Mahatma Gandhi’s significant contributions.

The video clip of this interview has gained widespread attention on social media platforms, as PM Modi suggests that cinematic portrayals of Mahatma Gandhi’s life and principles played a crucial role in enhancing his global recognition.

PM Modi pointed out the lack of global recognition for Mahatma Gandhi in post-Independence India, questioning whether the world became ‘curious’ about Gandhi after the movie was made about him. He stressed the importance of making Gandhi a well-known figure worldwide, similar to Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela.

Modi expressed that Gandhi held solutions to many of India’s problems. Additionally, he highlighted his redevelopment initiatives, including the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram project in Ahmedabad. Modi also mentioned creating pilgrimage spots for BR Ambedkar, showcasing his efforts as India’s prime minister over the past decade.

In 1982, the release of “Gandhi,” an extraordinary autobiography, captivated audiences worldwide. This cinematic masterpiece delves into the life of Mahatma Gandhi, a pivotal figure who played a crucial role in India’s fight for independence from British colonial rule during the 20th century. Directed and produced by Richard Attenborough, this collaborative effort between India and the United Kingdom showcases the exceptional screenplay penned by John Briley. Renowned for his unwavering commitment to nonviolence and tireless advocacy for civil liberties, his legacy remains indelibly etched in the annals of history.
