Bringing respite from the intense heat, Mumbai, Thane, and nearby areas experienced heavy rainfall along with a dust storm, lightning, strong winds, and thunder on Monday afternoon. The Regional Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, where thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are expected at isolated locations.
As per the weather department, Mumbai is expected to receive light rain and thunder showers. On the other hand, an orange alert has been issued for Pune, Satara, Sangli, Nashik, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Jalna, and Parbhani districts, where thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (50-60 kmph), and hail are likely at isolated places.
“Heavy to intense rainfall is anticipated in the next 2 hours in Thane, Palghar, Kalyan, Badlapur, and surrounding areas. It is advisable for residents to remain indoors as wind speeds are expected to be very high, reaching up to 40-50 kmph. More intense rainfall is expected in the interiors,” mentioned Rushikesh Agre, an independent meteorologist, on X.
Certain districts in Marathwada may experience thundershowers at multiple locations, along with gusty winds (40-50 kmph) and light to moderate rainfall.
