Elon Musk’s X has unveiled a novel function named Stories, leveraging GrokAI’s capabilities. This addition distinguishes itself from Instagram and Facebook’s Stories. Essentially, the feature offers an innovative method of interaction.
Interest in artificial intelligence soared with the introduction of ChatGPT to the public domain. OpenAI, the entity behind this widely discussed AI chatbot, quickly gained prominence, propelling CEO Sam Altman into the limelight. In contrast, Elon Musk had been vocal in his reservations about OpenAI and ChatGPT, labeling the latter as “too woke” and criticizing OpenAI’s shift towards profitability. Consequently, Musk launched his own AI chatbot, GrokAI, in December of the previous year, exclusively available to X Premium and Premium+ users, touting its “sense of humor” upon debut.
Now, Musk’s venture is introducing a fresh feature powered by GrokAI, accessible solely to premium subscribers. This feature aims to enrich user interaction with trending narratives. Announced via the official X engineering team’s account, @XEng, the platform will furnish premium users with AI-generated digests of posts affiliated with trending topics. These concise summaries will be conveniently accessible within the ‘For You’ section under the ‘Explore’ tab.
A recent post from the platform’s official account heralds the arrival of the new feature: “Now available: Stories on X, powered by Grok AI. See what the world is talking about with Stories on X, curated by @grok. Now available for Premium subscribers in the Explore tab! web & iOS only for now– let us know your feedback.” The ‘For You’ page aims for personalization, presenting stories and news items tailored to users’ interests. This innovation strives to keep users abreast of the latest developments on X, offering dynamic summaries that incorporate insights from platform-wide discussions, thus presenting a unique take on trending subjects.
Acknowledging the imperfections of its AI tool, Grok, the platform appends a cautionary note following each summary: “Grok can make mistakes, verify its outputs.” This encourages users to critically evaluate the information presented.
While the notion of summarizing trending news is not new to social media users, X’s approach is undeniably contemporary. Under the stewardship of former CEO Jack Dorsey, Twitter introduced a somewhat analogous feature, albeit one that relied on manual curation rather than AI, providing context through curated tweets and pins.
Moreover, X has recently introduced several other features. Notably, the addition of Community Notes in India allows users to fact-check information circulated on the platform before accepting it as truth. X’s social media post announcing this feature welcomes new contributors in India and highlights ongoing efforts to expand globally while ensuring note quality meets diverse perspectives.
