“Sarita Vihar Flyover Shut for 2 Months from May 1: Plan Alternate Routes”

Commuters in Delhi are being cautioned by the Delhi Traffic Police to steer clear of the Sarita Vihar flyover stretch in anticipation of heavy traffic congestion. The advisory comes as the flyover, an integral link between Faridabad, Haryana, and Southeast Delhi, is set to undergo extensive repairs lasting 60 days, starting from next month. This crucial route, frequented by thousands of commuters daily, will be affected by repair works conducted by the Public Works Department (PWD).

The repair plan, devised by PWD officials, entails a phased approach spread over the two-month period. Each carriageway will undergo repair work for a duration of 30 days, with the first and second phases focused on the portion from Ashram to Badarpur, followed by the third and fourth phases addressing the stretch from Badarpur to Ashram. Notably, throughout these stages, the flyover will never be entirely closed to traffic, with at least half a lane of the carriageway kept open at all times.

Indian Express, citing a PWD source, reports that the decision to undertake repair work on the aging flyover, constructed in 2001, follows a structural audit conducted by the department. Last year, plans for expansion and repair were deferred, but with the recent approval from the Traffic Police and the acquisition of a no-objection certificate (NOC), repair work is set to commence promptly.

Given the impending closure of the Sarita Vihar flyover, commuters are urged to seek alternative routes to minimize inconvenience. Particularly, those traveling from Ashram on Mathura Road towards Badarpur and Faridabad are advised to utilize Road No 13A accessible from the Sarita Vihar flyover slip road, where a U-turn can be made to connect to Mathura Road. This precautionary measure aims to alleviate potential traffic snarls and facilitate smoother travel during the repair period.
