The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended K Kavitha, an incarcerated member of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), on Thursday in relation to the defunct Delhi liquor policy case. Kavitha, the offspring of ex-Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, is currently detained in Tihar Jail until April 23. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took her into custody on March 15 at her home in Hyderabad on allegations of money laundering in the same case.
Kavitha claimed that the CBI had taken her statement in jail and accused it of being a “political case”. She stated, “This case is solely based on the statement. It is a political case. This is an attempt to target opposition parties. The CBI has already recorded my statement in jail.”
CBI officials recently interrogated Kavitha in prison after receiving authorization from a special court. The BRS leader was questioned regarding WhatsApp conversations found on co-accused Buchi Babu’s phone and documents related to a land deal linked to the liquor policy case.
Sources mentioned that on April 6, the CBI visited Tihar Jail to question Kavitha about these aspects of the case. The ED has accused Kavitha of being a key member of the “South Group”, which allegedly paid the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi kickbacks amounting to Rs 100 crore in exchange for a significant portion of liquor licenses in the national capital.
