Rainfall overnight in various parts of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and other areas provided a welcome relief from the poor air quality prevailing over the past few days.

Overnight, many regions within Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced rainfall on the night between Thursday and Friday. This precipitation brought significant and much-needed relief from the persistently poor air quality that had been troubling the area in recent days.

The occurrence of showers in the national capital coincides with the ongoing efforts of the city government to combat the pollution crisis. Notably, there is an initiative to explore the concept of ‘artificial rain’ as a means to address the challenging pollution situation. This multifaceted approach, combining natural rainfall and innovative solutions, reflects a concerted attempt to improve the overall air quality in the city amid growing environmental concerns.

Images captured from Kartavya Path, ITO, and the Delhi-Noida border revealed the presence of light to moderate-intensity rain showers. Simultaneously, various monitoring stations across Delhi reported a notable improvement in air quality. This morning, the Air Quality Index (AQI) at several locations showed readings below 100, a significant contrast from the previous night when the AQI had exceeded 400. The visual evidence of rain and the concurrent drop in air pollution levels offer a promising sign of relief for residents and authorities grappling with deteriorating air quality in the region.

Making rain artificially, called cloud seeding, involves releasing certain substances into the air to help clouds create rain. Substances like silver iodide, potassium iodide, and dry ice are commonly used. They act as a  center where water vapor can gather, making it possible for rain or snow to form. This method is often used in places facing water shortages or droughts worldwide.
