“PM Modi Launches Projects Valued at Rs 17,300 Crore in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu”

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched several infrastructure projects in Tamil Nadu, totaling over 17,300 crore rupees. In Thoothukudi, he initiated the construction of the Outer Harbor Container Terminal at V. O. Chidambaranar Port, which will transform it into a key transshipment hub on the east coast. This move aims to strengthen India’s position in global trade by leveraging our coastline and strategic location. Additionally, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated initiatives to establish V. O. Chidambaranar Port as India’s first Green Hydrogen Hub Port. This includes the introduction of a desalination plant, hydrogen production facilities, and a bunkering facility. These efforts align with India’s commitment to clean energy solutions and achieving net-zero emissions.

As part of the Harit Nauka initiative, the Prime Minister launched India’s first indigenous green hydrogen fuel cell inland waterway vessel, showcasing our dedication to sustainable energy alternatives. Additionally, tourist facilities were dedicated in 75 lighthouses across ten States and Union Territories, promoting tourism and preserving cultural heritage.

Rail projects were also unveiled to double the Vanchi Maniyachchi – Nagercoil rail line and the Melappalayam – Aralvaymoli section, aimed at reducing travel time and improving connectivity between Chennai and southern regions. Furthermore, four road projects were inaugurated to enhance connectivity, boost socio-economic development, and facilitate pilgrimage visits in Tamil Nadu, representing a total investment of about 4,586 crore rupees.
