“Google Maps Introduces ‘Glanceable Directions’: View Navigation While Phone is Locked”

Google Maps is set to roll out an innovative feature known as Glanceable Information, designed to offer navigation assistance without requiring users to unlock their phones. This addition will display real-time estimated time of arrival (ETA) and step-by-step directions directly in the route preview. Termed ‘Glanceable Directions,’ this feature simplifies navigation by eliminating the need to unlock the device repeatedly.

Initially announced in February of the previous year, this feature not only showcases the route overview but also enables users to visualize their intended destination without initiating the navigation process. This enhancement is particularly advantageous for users seeking to review their routes within their immediate vicinity quickly.

Moreover, whether users are walking, biking, or driving, Google Maps automatically adjusts the route preview if deviations occur. This adaptive functionality ensures that users stay on course regardless of their chosen mode of transportation. While Glanceable Directions are currently accessible to Android users, availability for iOS users remains unconfirmed at present.

Activating Glanceable Directions is a straightforward process. Users can enable this feature by launching Google Maps and accessing the profile icon located in the top right corner of the screen. From there, navigate to Settings, scroll down, and select ‘Navigation Settings.’ Within this menu, users can activate Glanceable Directions, enhancing their navigation experience effortlessly.

To activate this feature, simply scroll down within the settings menu until you locate the toggle labeled ‘Glanceable directions while navigating.’ By toggling this option on, users gain the ability to conveniently view navigation directions even when their device is locked. This improvement offers a significant advantage over the previous iteration, where accessing directions necessitated unlocking the device’s screen.
