Indian 2 Secures Highest Price for Kamal Haasan Film in AP and TS?

The last film of the talented actor Kamal Haasan, ‘Vikram’, was sold for a price ranging from Rs 8 to 10 crore. However, his upcoming action thriller ‘Indian 2’, the sequel to the earlier blockbuster ‘Indian’, was reportedly acquired for Rs 22 crore in the two Telugu states. A distributor mentioned that this price is nearly double the usual rate for a Kamal Haasan movie and marks the highest price for the national award-winning actor in recent times.

The distributor attributed this high price to the successful combination of Kamal Haasan and director Shankar. The distributor also highlighted the success of their previous collaboration, ‘Indian’, released in 1996, which was a massive hit due to its unique storyline of an aged freedom fighter turning into a vigilante, combined with engaging songs and entertainment. ‘Indian 2’ has been in production for over five years, with filming starting in January 2019 after being announced in September 2017.

Despite facing delays due to the pandemic, the shoot resumed in August 2022. The film is co-produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies and features a strong supporting cast including Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, and SJ Suryah. The release date for ‘Indian 2’ is yet to be announced, but it is the official sequel to Shankar’s 1996 vigilante action film ‘Indian’, where Kamal Haasan played a double role as the protagonist.
